Alexandra Eala swept past Thailand's Patcharin Cheapchandej 6-1, 6-0 on Monday to reach the 2026 Asian Games tennis quarterfinals in Aichi-Nagoya. The top-seeded Filipino, currently ranked No. 18 in the world, needed just 55 minutes at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center to advance.

Heavy rain initially pushed the Round of 16 match indoors. Once play began, though, Eala wasted no time taking control. She broke serve early in the opening set and never let up, blanking Cheapchandej in the second to lock down a spot in the final eight.
Up next, Eala faces Chinese Taipei's Joanna Garland in the quarterfinals on September 30th. But the stakes stretch beyond a medal. A deep singles run in Aichi-Nagoya could strengthen Eala's case for a 2028 Olympic run.
That opportunity to represent her country comes at a cost, though.
By choosing the Asian Games over the mandatory WTA China Open, Eala could face a fine of up to $10,000. With her current form, the gamble may pay off. At the 2022 Asian Games, Eala earned bronze medals in women's singles and mixed doubles. This time around, she looks poised to take home gold.
