Alexia Putellas is almost ready to name her next club. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner left FC Barcelona after 14 years earlier this month.
Now, several top women's soccer teams on both sides of the Atlantic are pursuing her signature.
NWSL Teams Target Alexia Putellas After World Cup
In the US, multiple NWSL clubs are pressing for a quick answer. The US women's soccer league resumes play following the 2026 FIFA World Cup's conclusion, while preseason camps open next week. That tight window has pushed NWSL teams to move fast.
Gotham FC and expansion side Boston Legacy FC are reportedly the frontrunners among Putellas's NWSL suitors. A move to Gotham would place the legendary midfielder in a major media market alongside other top international talent, including incoming ex-Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and fellow Spain international Esther González.
WSL Clubs Remain in the Race as Transfer Window Opens
Still, Europe remains firmly in the picture. The London City Lionesses are widely reported as favorites to land the midfielder, though Chelsea and Arsenal have also expressed interest.
Putellas posted 19 goals and 15 assists last season for Barcelona, proving she can still perform at the top level despite being plagued by injury since 2022.
A decision as to where she'll go next is expected later this week.
