Ali Krieger is speaking out amid the NWSL turmoil, saying she is “disgusted and appalled by the recent but not surprising news in our league.”
The Athletic’s report detailing allegations of sexual coercion and emotional abuse by former coach Paul Riley has rocked the NWSL, a league already dealing with several misconduct scandals.
The Orlando Pride defender addressed the current situation on Twitter, writing, “We as women and footballers, deserve so much better.”
We as women and footballers, deserve so much better. Our priority and non-negotiable should be to always keep our players safe and to create a healthy environment for this league to thrive in. pic.twitter.com/I9ADxZ1Msa— Ali Krieger (@alikrieger) October 2, 2021

“My hope is that the individuals and officials in our league who were all aware of these cases and have covered up the reports or brushed them under the rug for years will be held accountable,” Krieger wrote.
Krieger’s closing remarks echo the demands of the NWSL Players Association that any league staff members who have been accused of conduct in violation of the anti-harassment policy be suspended and placed under investigation.
