Aliyah Boston leads No. 1 South Carolina past No. 21 Kentucky


No. 1 South Carolina cruised to an easy conference victory on Sunday, downing No. 21 Kentucky 74-54 at Colonial Life Arena.

South Carolina guard Zia Cooke led all scorers with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. Preseason All-American Aliyah Boston continued to shine for South Carolina as well, notching 18 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks and two assists in the win.

Jumping out to a 41-27 lead at halftime, the Gamecocks were able to rotate their bench players in during the second half. After the game, head coach Dawn Staley shouted out freshman guard Bree Hall, who finished with five points and three rebounds.

South Carolina dominated the game on both sides of the ball, holding Kentucky star Rhyne Howard to just nine points. The Gamecocks out-rebounded the Wildcats 55 to 37, pulling down 40 defensive rebounds to Kentucky’s 24. They also outshot Kentucky by a significant margin, finishing with a 44.9 percent field goal percentage and holding the Wildcats to 29.6 percent.

With the win Sunday, South Carolina is 8-0 against ranked opponents this season.
