It didn’t take Amy Rodriguez long to make her mark in North Carolina.
Less than a month after being acquired in a trade with Kansas City FC, the forward scored her first goal for the Courage on Sunday. Rodriguez converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute that wound up as the game-winner in North Carolina’s 1-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars.

“It’s such a privilege to score, let alone play for this club,” Rodriguez said after the game. “I have all of my teammates behind me to thank, because they raise my level immensely and make me a far better player.
“This team has a championship mentality.”
The Courage (7-4-3) are in second place in the NWSL standings, five points behind the first-place Portland Thorns.
