Brittney Griner picked up a Flagrant 1 foul against Angel Reese during Tuesday's Sun vs. Dream WNBA Commissioner's Cup game.
The physical play on Reese came during a fourth-quarter rebound battle in Atlanta. Reese fought to cut around Griner toward the basket as the Dream tried to extend its slim 68-65 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the game.

What Led to Brittney Griner's Flagrant Foul on Angel Reese?
In footage that's since gone viral, Griner tried to block Reese by wrapping her arms around the third-year forward. Her left arm hooked Reese around the neck, sending her hard to the floor.
After a review, WNBA officials upgraded the call to a Flagrant 1.
Under the 2026 WNBA CBA, that penalty carries an automatic $500 fine. However, Sun fans feared the call could've been worse. If the refs had ruled the foul a Flagrant 2, Griner could've been ejected from the game and forced to pay a $1000 fine.
As it stands, the Flagrant 1 foul is Griner's first of the season, meaning the veteran forward has three to go before triggering an automatic suspension.
Despite the jockeying, there appeared to be no bad blood between the two forwards after Griner reached down to help Reese to her feet. The two share a connection through Atlanta — Griner spent the 2025 season with the Dream before joining Connecticut this year.
