Led by Black professional soccer players, the BWPC is on a mission to advocate for change. In their partnership with adidas, the two are dedicated “to making a lasting impact in under-represented communities in order to create a safe space for young Black girls to experience a field of their own.”
“We hope that by giving young girls access to safe spaces and players at the highest level of the game, it helps them see their own possibilities,” said Tziarra King, OL Reign forward and BWPC member, in a release.
As a nonprofit, the BWPC elevates the image, value and representation of Black women as athletes and leaders in business, industry and public and private institutions.
Since 2020, adidas has expanded upon its partnership with the USSF to include supporting the BWPC, Black Players for Change and Musco Lighting.
The brand has created 12 new mini-pitches in predominantly Black communities across the U.S. that are set to be installed by 2022. Through their expanded partnership with the BWPC, the two will go further to host annual soccer clinics and programming for girls ages 8-15 in communities of color. Additionally, they will continue to work at tackling inequality and “creating impactful solutions for Black communities.”
