Arizona State will honor former Sun Devils guard Briann January with a ceremony on Nov. 12. The school announced Tuesday that it plans to hang her jersey in the rafters of Desert Financial Arena, the team’s home court, on the same day that Arizona State takes on Minnesota in a regular season clash.
January is one of the most accomplished athletes in Arizona State history, having lead the women’s basketball team in steals and assists for four straight years. During her time with the program from 2005-09, the Sun Devils made the NCAA Tournament every year, including two trips to the Elite Eight.

We are so excited to honor all-time great Briann January’s No. 20 jersey on Nov. 12!
“I am incredibly thrilled that we finally get to honor Briann January’s jersey in Desert Financial Arena,” said head coach Charli Turner Thorne. “Briann is one of the most decorated players to come out of this program, and she is beyond deserving of this honor. During her time as a Sun Devil, she helped elevate our program to elite prominence and helped make incredible runs in the NCAA tournament.”
Following the conclusion of her college career, January made her way to the WNBA, where she has played for 13 years and won a title with the Indiana Fever in 2012. She currently is ninth on the WNBA all-time assists list with 1,255.
This past season with the Connecticut Sun, January was named to the WNBA’s All-Defensive First Team.
In 2017, January rejoined Arizona State as an assistant coach and in 2019 helped the Sun Devils return to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015.
