Carli Lloyd got one last chance to say goodbye in front of her hometown crowd Wednesday night as Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit played to a 0-0 draw at Subaru Park in Philadelphia.
“The crowd tonight…this is what we need at every NWSL game,” Lloyd said after the game. “We need your support. We need you to keep coming out, supporting these amazing women here.

“I want to thank the Philadelphia Union, the NWSL and Gotham FC for making this happen. I know it was an inconvenience to some moving from RedBull [Stadium] down here but it truly meant the world to me. I cannot express how thankful and grateful I am for that.”
She took the time to shout out her teammates that were in the stands, as well as anyone who has joined her in her 34-year career.
“Everything’s come full circle,” she continued. “All my national team teammates, those that’re here, a few of them here tonight. Former teammates, all of the coaches I played for, everyone’s had a role in my journey. I’m so thankful for that. I’m going to miss playing. I’m going to miss this, playing in front of all of the fans.”
The three-time Olympian then called her family her “greatest gift” before being dunked on her teammates with blue BodyArmor.
“It’s been an unbelievable journey,” Lloyd said. “Something that I never could have dreamed up. It’s been absolutely, incredibly hard. But I’ve loved every moment of it. I think the greatest gift that I’ve had, towards the end of my career is I’m with my family here by my side.
“This was the best, last game I’ve ever played at Subaru Park.”
