Christen Press scored her first goal in an Angel City uniform on Saturday, adding her name to the score sheet in a lively contest against San Diego.

Though Angel City fell to the Wave 4-2, Press’ finish was a promising sign for the Los Angeles club’s budding attack.

The forward’s debut goal for the expansion club came in the 59th minute. Press nodded down a lofted cross into the box and struck the ball past Wave keeper Kailen Sheridan and into the upper corner of the net to pull ACFC level with San Diego.

Press, Angel City’s first signing last year, will be tasked with anchoring the attack as the young club finds its footing in the NWSL.

With Manchester United last season, Press notched four goals in 12 starts, and in her last NWSL campaign with Utah, she tallied eight goals across 14 appearances.
