Croix Bethune set the NWSL single-season assist record Sunday with a 17th-minute feed to No. 4 Kansas City Current teammate Vanessa DiBernardo. It marked her 11th of the season — and produced the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over the No. 3 Washington Spirit.
Croix Bethune Bests Tobin Heath — and Herself — for NWSL Record
Before this season, Bethune and Portland Thorns legend Tobin Heath had each topped out at 10 assists in a season. Heath achieved the feat in 2016. Bethune matched that number during her 2024 rookie campaign with Washington — the same club she faced Sunday after a January trade brought her to Kansas City.
"I was thinking about it a lot because I wanted to break that record really bad," Bethune said. "I just set some goals for myself and I manifest it and by the grace of God it happens."
The record-breaking assist also arrived during a pivotal stretch for the Current, as the fourth-place team heads into Sunday's regular-season finale.
Beyond the NWSL record, Bethune has added four goals this season and now holds 23 regular-season assists across her three-year pro career. That level of production continues to justify the reported $1 million trade package Kansas City invested in her.
