The Dallas Wings snapped a three-game skid Wednesday, holding off Toronto 94-88 in a Tempo vs Wings matchup at a sold-out College Park Center. The win pushed Dallas to 20-14, doubling last season's 10-win total with weeks left in the regular season.
After building an 18-point third-quarter lead, the Wings watched Toronto trim the deficit behind Nyara Sabally, who finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting. Veteran Alanna Smith steadied Dallas down the stretch, adding 13 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Paige Bueckers, meanwhile, scored all 22 of her points in the second half, adding 8 assists and three steals despite shooting 7-of-18 from the floor.
Marina Mabrey Helps Toronto Mount Late Surge in Tempo vs Lynx Game
Still, Toronto almost made good on its comeback. Marina Mabrey scored a game-high 23 points, hitting three fourth-quarter triples to cut the deficit to 80-77 with 4:28 left. But Mabrey then picked up her fifth foul, sending Dallas to the free-throw line to close out the game.
By the end of the night, Toronto had committed 16 turnovers. The result saw the expansion side fall to 10-23 in its debut season.
Dallas next visits the Indiana Fever on Friday at 7:30 PM ET on ION. The Wings could face Caitlin Clark's side minus some key scoring power as rookie Azzi Fudd (knee) and forward Jessica Shepard (ankle) sat out Wednesday night and Aziaha James left the game early with an injury.
Toronto's next match is also against the Fever, though they'll get a bit of a break first before hosting Indiana on Tuesday at 7 PM ET on ESPN.
