No. 8 Dallas is looking to right the ship, as the playoff-hungry Wings return home to face No. 13 Toronto in tonight’s Tempo vs Wings clash after dropping three straight WNBA games.
Dallas’s lead over No. 9 Portland has narrowed to 5.5 games. The Wings ceded a close game to No. 6 Washington before collapsing against No. 2 Golden State and No. 1 Minnesota.
The Wings offense sputtered without rookie Azzi Fudd (knee), with 3-point shooting falling from 34% to 29% across the last two games — and top rebounder Jessica Shepard listed as day-to-day (ankle).
Hot off a 36-point night against No. 5 Atlanta, Marina Mabrey is Toronto’s top threat. However, even the league’s fifth-best shooter has struggled to ignite her side after guard Brittney Sykes (plantar fascia) landed on injured list.
Dallas took the pair’s July 10th clash behind Paige Bueckers’s 34 points, taking the edge over a Tempo side that’s lost nine of its last 10 outings.
“We can’t allow people to score 107 points on us,” Toronto coach Sandy Brondello said. “Defense is such a big need.”
The Tempo visits the Wings tonight at 8 PM ET (USA).
