Kelsey Mitchell delivered a dominant showing in Tuesday night's Fever vs Tempo WNBA game, scoring 29 points in Indiana's 101-95 road win. The veteran guard poured in 16 in the first quarter alone, but exited in the fourth with what appeared to be an injury.
Fever Winning Streak Hits Five as Clark, Mitchell Break Records
Before leaving the game, Mitchell smothered Toronto on both end of the court, going 11-16 from the field and sinking 4-6 three-point attempts. In the game's third quarter, she banked eight points in under one minute before trading double technicals with Marina Mabrey after a physical defensive exchange.
However, by the game's last frame, she had retired to the Fever's locker room.
With its top-scorer off the floor, Indiana relied on superstar guard Caitlin Clark, who finished the night with 24 points. While Mitchell was on the court, the duo each cleared 20 points for the 16th time this season. That broke a record Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter set with Phoenix back in 2008.
Aliyah Boston added 16, while Sophie Cunningham hit all three of her 3-point tries to push Indiana ahead.
On the opposing bench, Mabrey carried the Tempo with 22 points, as Brittney Sykes and Aneesah Morrow combined for 30 more. Still, by the final buzzer, Toronto had dropped its 11th straight game.
The Fever's WNBA streak, meanwhile, rolls on with five straight wins, pushing Indiana to 24-12.
Indiana Blames Arena Temperature for Kelsey Mitchell Injury Exit
After the game, head coach Stephanie White gave fans an update on Mitchell's condition, explaining she had "overheated" due to the temperature inside the arena and the team "pulled her as a safeguard."
Clark though, added color to the situation. "Maybe if Canada had air conditioning, that would be helpful," she quipped. "It's a million degrees, but hopefully she'll be okay."
Despite the early exit, Mitchell still managed to tie A'ja Wilson's WNBA milestone by the end of the night, recording her 20th consecutive 20-point outing.
