The Golden State Valkyries ended Indiana's three-game winning streak Thursday night, holding off the Fever 90-88 at Chase Center.
Indiana rallied from an early deficit to tie the game at halftime, but a final shot in the closing seconds fell short, sealing the win for Golden State.
Clark Makes WNBA History Amid Shooting Struggles
For Caitlin Clark, the loss came with a footnote.
The Fever guard achieved a historic milestone on a night where she struggled to find her offensive rhythm, recording her 500th career assist in the game's second quarter.
She is now the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 points and 500 assists, achieving the record in just 59 games. That shatters the previous benchmark held by Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird, who reached those numbers in 82 games.
Despite the history-making feat, Clark went cold from the field against a physical Valkyries defense and a vocal Chase Center crowd. Entering the game averaging 23.8 points, she finished the night with just 16 points on 3-of-12 shooting.
Indiana as a whole failed to connect from deep. The Fever missed its first eight 3-point attempts, though rookie Raven Johnson did step up, matching Clark with 16 points to co-lead the team in scoring.
However, Janelle Salaun boosted Golden State off the bench with 19 points and seven rebounds while Gabby Williams contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Caitlin Clark Remains on the Fever Injury Report: Here's Why
Before the game, Fever coach Stephanie White explained why Clark will likely remain listed as "probable" on the team's official injury report for the rest of the 2026 WNBA season.
The league recently issued a warning to the franchise after Indiana ruled Clark out at the last minute against the Portland Fire, citing the guard's lingering back issue.
To ensure strict compliance with WNBA injury reporting policies moving forward, White noted that fans can expect to see the guard listed as "probable" for the foreseeable future.
The Fever now travel to Portland for Saturday's 8 PM ET rematch with the Fire (CBS), while the Valkyries gear up to host the Aces on Sunday at 3:30 PM ET (NBC).
