Fast paced from start to finish, the highly anticipated Challenge Cup matchup between Gotham FC and the North Carolina Courage did not disappoint.
The return of the national team players made an immediate impact for Gotham, as Margaret Purce scored twice and Carli Lloyd also found the back of the net in the first half.
On the other side, Jessica McDonald kicked off the second half with the equalizer for North Carolina.
But it was Évelyne Viens who came off the bench and showcased the value of fresh legs, scoring the game winner in extra time (92′).
Gotham FC’s 4-3 victory over the North Carolina Courage now places them first in the Challenge Cup east division standings with six points.

North Carolina (1-1-0) will next face off against Racing Louisville (0-1-1) on April 26th. Meanwhile, Gotham FC (2-0-0) returns to action April 27th against the Washington Spirit (1-1-0).
