Call it a homecoming.
Jennifer Rizzotti, who played point guard on UConn’s very first national champion basketball team, has been named president of the Connecticut Sun.
Rizzotti’s winning history extended beyond her time with UConn and into her time with the Houston Comets, where she won two WNBA Championships.
Rizzotti then went on to coach collegiately, spending 17 seasons at the University of Hartford and winning coach of the year honors in the America East three times (2006, 2007, 2010). Most recently, Rizzotti was let go as the head coach at George Washington after going 9-14 on the season and having made the NCAA tournament once in the past five years.
Currently, she is an assistant coach on the USA Olympic Team and the USA AmeriCup Team, for which the camp roster was announced last week.
With the Sun, Rizzotti will be responsible for overall business operations and marketing strategies.
”Jen Rizzotti brings instant credibility and is a powerhouse within the women’s basketball community,” said Kathy Regan-Pyne, a representative of the Connecticut Sun board of governors. “She has deep roots here in Connecticut and we could not be more thrilled to have her joining our team.”
