Jewell Loyd hits game winner in Seattle’s OT win over the Wings

Jewell Loyd came up clutch Friday night, draining a lofted, 27-foot shot to lift Seattle to a 105-102 overtime win over Dallas.

With 0.8 seconds left on the clock in a tie game, Loyd darted past her defender, giving herself just enough space to catch and shoot the inbounds pass at the top of the arc.

Loyd was hot all game, putting up 25 points and shooting 72.7 percent from the field. Averaging 20.1 points per game this season, Loyd has scored in double digits in each of the Storm’s eight regular-season games.

Breanna Stewart added 23 points and nine rebounds in the win. Stephanie Talbot contributed 21 points of her own.

Marina Mabrey put on a scoring clinic for the Wings, shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep to finish with 24 points. Arike Ogunbowale put up 22 points, eight assists and four rebounds, making it her fifth game of 20-plus points this season.

The Storm’s overtime win, their second of the season against the Wings, lifts the team to 7-1 for the season. The Wings, who fell to 2-5 with the loss, will have a chance to redeem themselves when the two teams meet again in Seattle on Sunday.
