Sharples Scores, DiBernardo Ties Assist Record in KC Current Shutout
The Current struck early, with defender Kayla Sharples putting KC ahead in the 15th minute off a Vanessa DiBernardo assist. The goal marked Sharples's first this year. Later in the second half, Haley Hopkins doubled the lead in the 59th minute on another feed by DiBernardo.
The goal came during her 50th match in a KC uniform.
DiBernardo's two-assist night pulled her level with Temwa Chawinga at 13 assists, good for second on the franchise's all-time list. She now sits one short of Sofia Huerta's league-wide regular-season mark.
The Current's attack wrapped the year with a league-leading 54-goal haul, trailing only its own 2024 squad in the NWSL record book. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Lorena anchored the back line, conceding just one shot on target all match.
