Leylah Fernandez knocked off top-seeded Mirra Andreeva 6-2, 7-5 at the 2026 Singapore Open on Friday to earn her first semifinal berth of the WTA season.

The sixth-seeded Canadian grabbed momentum early, fighting off a pair of break points in the third game. She then broke Andreeva and cruised through a lopsided opener. The second set, though, demanded more grit.
Fernandez built a 5-2 lead before Andreeva rallied to level at five-all. But Fernandez responded with a decisive break in the 12th game to close out the match in an hour and 32 minutes.
Missed shots, not winners, decided the latest meeting between the young breakouts.
Andreeva racked up 41 unforced errors to Fernandez's 30, though the Canadian edged her 13-12 in winners. It marked the second time this year Fernandez topped Andreeva on a hard court. She picked up a similar win in Toronto earlier this summer.
The result pushes Fernandez's head-to-head lead to 3-2 and adds a ninth career top 10 victory to her record. Up next, she faces No. 5 seed Maja Chwalińska in Saturday's semifinal — a first-ever matchup between the two.
