Since being named commissioner of the NWSL in February 2020, Baird helped create the Challenge Cup during the COVID-affected 2020 season (during which the NWSL had zero positive cases) as the league saw a 500 percent TV ratings increase and the highest social media engagement across all professional sports.Â
Other nominees for the Sports Executive of the Year category include Gary Bettman (NHL), Roger Goodell (NFL), Adam Silver (NBA) and more. Michele Roberts (NBPA) was the only other female nominated. Â
Additionally, the NWSL has been nominated for Sports Breakthrough of the Year, while the Orlando Pride have been nominated for Best in Sports Social Media.Â
A total of 88 nominees were named over 15 categories.Â
The winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony on June 23.
