Lauren Hemp scored twice to lead Man City past Arsenal 4-2 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, keeping Manchester's unblemished 2026/27 Women's Super League run going strong.
Man City, Arsenal Exhange WSL Goals Before Hemp Takeover
The highly anticipated clash saw the visitors take the lead twice — first through Lisa Baum's 43rd-minute finish, then via Alessia Russo early in the second half after a misplayed pass out of the back. Both times, City answered.
Hemp equalized before halftime with a deflected effort. Then, substitute Kerstin Casparij bent a shot in from outside the box to level the score again at 2-2.
From there, the 2025/26 Women's Super League champions shifted gears. Hemp tucked a finish inside the far post in the 72nd minute for her second goal of the gam, and Khadija Shaw added a fourth off a late breakaway to close the door on any Arsenal comeback.
Trouble for Gunners as City Stay Perfect
The defeat drops the Gunners to 10th with just one win from five matches. They're now 10 points behind league leaders City. After full time, Arsenal manager Renée Slegers conceded her side is "not in the title race conversation."
"There's a lot to review," she said. "How we've been doing things, from all aspects. Training program, bigger things in the background. We're going to do everything we can to see where we can be better."
Following the international break, Arsenal will take on Birmingham City on Oct. 17th. Man City, meanwhile, next face Brighton on Oct. 18th.
