Michael Porter Jr. is singing the WNBA’s praises.

The Denver Nuggets star stopped by the Tea with A & Phee podcast to talk with Napheesa Collier and A’ja Wilson about the growth of the game, including Candace Parker’s place on the NBA 2K cover.

The Chicago Sky icon made history this summer, becoming the first female 2K cover athlete, gracing the cover of NBA 2K22.

“Candace obviously is a legend on and off the court. She’s amazing, I have been a fan of hers for a long time so it’s only right,” says Porter Jr.

The 23-year-old went on to talk about WNBA progress more broadly, saying that “it’s going to be a process,” but that “it’s definitely time for some of those things to be noticed because you guys are amazing.”

“You guys don’t get the respect or the love that you guys deserve in the WNBA,” says Porter Jr.

When asked about his favorite WNBA player, Porter Jr. rattled off quite the lineup for Collier and Wilson.

“All of you guys coming out of UCONN I watch,” he says, adding, “Candace for sure, Skylar Diggins, and then Kelsey Plum is one of my favorites because she was at Washington when I was.”

The Nuggets forward then made his pitch for a WNBA expansion team to join the NBA in Denver.

“I think the WNBA should come to Denver just because I think that Denver is one of those perfect in-between cities… so for me, I love it because it’s chill, but still you can find stuff to do. I think that the Denver fan base is coming along.”

An added bonus for Porter Jr. — “It’s sunny 300 days out of the year.”
