Mirra Andreeva made quick work of Janice Tjen on Tuesday, sweeping the Indonesian tennis star 6-2, 6-2 at Louis Armstrong Stadium to open her US Open 2026 campaign. The fifth seed needed just over an hour, and the outcome was never in doubt after a dominant first-set stretch.

Andreeva trailed 2-1 early before reeling off a 12-point run that put the opener out of reach.
Her first serve did most of the damage. She put 80% in play and won 85% of those points, a combination Tjen had no answer for. The two had met in Cincinnati less than two weeks earlier, but Tuesday's scoreline was even more lopsided.
"Our match in Cincinnati was really tough," Andreeva said after the match.
"Today I was just trying to talk to my coach to see what I can do better in order for me to feel confident on the court. I was just trying to be very aggressive, just trying to go for my shots. Today was a better match."

That kind of composure will matter in the rounds ahead.
The spotlight is growing bigger on Andreeva in New York, where she has yet to reach the second week despite making it this far four years running. Germany's Eva Lys is next, and a win there would bring her closer to improving her record at Flushing Meadows.
