Japanese tennis favorite Naomi Osaka opened her 2026 US Open with a 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3) win over Anastasia Zakharova on Monday night.
The four-time Grand Slam champion needed two tiebreaks to advance, but her first-round entrance at Arthur Ashe made just as much noise as her on-court performance.

Osaka walked onto court in a custom look by Law Roach and Who Decides War, a head-to-toe tribute to Allen Iverson. She wore geometric cornrows, a black arm sleeve, a red forearm band, and a walkout cape crafted from distressed gray French terry.
Newspaper clippings celebrating Osaka's own career milestones lined the fabric.
"He's a trailblazer," Osaka said of Iverson afterward. "He's shifted the way that NBA players dress. I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports and also just expressing yourself through style, I feel like he's someone that I look up to in that regard."
Osaka Survives US Open Opening Round Scare
On court, each set followed the same pattern. Osaka led 5-3 in the opener before Zakharova rallied to force a tiebreak, and the second played out similarly. Still, Osaka finished with 11 aces, including one at 120 MPH.
She faces Katerina Siniakova in the second round on Wednesday.
