Women’s college basketball might soon be able to use the term March Madness.

The NCAA announced yesterday that amid the gender equity review being conducted by Kaplan, Hecker & Fink LLP the Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee is considering changes within the sport related to branding and participation opportunities.

Among the changes is the potential to use March Madness branding traditionally associated only with the NCAA men’s Division I basketball tournament.

The second point the committee is looking to address is “participation opportunities,” with the possible expansion of the tournament field to 68 teams as well as changes to the timing of the tournament and the Division I Women’s Final Four.
