Kansas women’s basketball upsets No. 13 Texas in overtime

Kansas took down No. 13 Texas on Wednesday, 70-66 in overtime, dropping the Longhorns to 1-2 in conference play.

It’s the Jayhawks’ first win over Texas since 2012. For the Longhorns, it’s their second-straight conference loss against an unranked opponent.

A even matchup throughout, each team committed 32 turnovers while Texas out-rebounded Kansas, 38-32. Kansas was moderately better from the floor, shooting 49 percent to the Longhorns’ 41 percent shooting.

Tied 59-59- at the end of regulation, Zakiyah Franklin opened up the overtime period with a 3-pointer and Kansas never looked back en route to their second Big 12 win.

Kansas’ Holly Kersgieter led all scorers with 19 points and three rebounds as Franklin finished with 10 points and four assists.

Joanne Allen-Taylor scored 18 points for the Longhorns, adding five rebounds. DeYona Gaston was right behind her with 14 points and five rebounds.

Texas will look to pull even in conference play against West Virginia on Saturday while Kansas has a matchup with No. 14 Baylor on Sunday.
