Texas softball kicked off the Women’s College World Series with a bang Thursday, taking home a 7-2 win over No. 5 UCLA.
The Longhorns, one of three unseeded teams remaining in the tournament, jumped out to a 7-0 lead off runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings. Freshman infielder Mia Scott went 4-for-4 at the plate, batting in two of the team’s seven runs.
Mary Iakopo also came up big for the Longhorns, smashing her 50th career home run and putting two more runs on the board. Bella Dayton added a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
The team’s seven-run total is a program high for the Women’s College World Series.
