Megan Rapinoe will stay in Seattle for the 2023 NWSL season.
The 37-year-old forward re-signed with OL Reign on a one-year deal, the club announced Wednesday. The signing comes exactly 10 years after she first was allocated to the team ahead of the NWSL’s inaugural season in 2013.
“I’m back, Seattle!” Rapinoe said in a news release. “This club means the world to me, and I’m fully committed to helping this team to the best of my ability.”

Rapinoe will aim to lead OL Reign to a second consecutive NWSL Shield while also looking to help the U.S. women’s national team to a third consecutive World Cup title. USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski has repeatedly indicated Rapinoe’s importance as a veteran leader on a team with many young faces.
In 2022, she contributed seven goals and four assists for OL Reign, tied for the most on the team in both categories. She appeared in 14 games, including her 100th career regular-season match to close out the regular season.
Rapinoe is one of 10 players who have appeared in every one of the NWSL’s first 10 seasons. Just five of those players have appeared for the same team every season, and that number includes Rapinoe as well as her teammates Lauren Barnes and Jess Fishlock.
“We have the three Reign originals once again,” general manager Nick Perera said in a news release. “Pinoe is a world-class player who has been and is a trailblazer for this sport and this league.”
In Rapinoe’s 10 seasons with OL Reign, they have finished first in the league in points three times. Yet despite their three Shields, they have never won an NWSL championship
The star forward expressed confidence in the club and coach Laura Harvey heading into 2023.
“Under Laura’s leadership and surrounded by this level of talent and quality, I’m confident we will continue to raise the bar and set the standard for success beyond the sport,” Rapinoe said.
