OL Reign has signed head coach Laura Harvey to an extension running through the 2023 season, the team announced Thursday.
Harvey, who coached the team from 2013-17, returned in early August after the departure of Farid Benstiti. At the time, the team was 2-1-4 with just seven points. It was then reported in October that Benstiti had resigned over allegations of abuse.
Assistant coach Sam Laity took over for six matches and led the team to a 4-2-0 record and 12 points.
Since Harvey assumed the role after the Tokyo Olympics, the team has earned the No. 2 seed in the NWSL playoffs, a quarterfinal bye and the opportunity to host a semifinal game on Nov. 14.

“I’m really happy to have extended my contract with this team and this organization. When I signed my contract earlier this season, there was a lot of uncertainty about where the team was at and I’m glad we were able to put performances on the field that we have been proud of. I see a long-term vision of what we are trying to achieve at the club, and I am so happy to be a part of it,” Harvey said in a release.
Just Women’s Sports named Harvey as the NWSL’s 2021 Coach of the Year this week.
