Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aminata Diallo was released from police custody on Thursday as French authorities continue to investigate an attack on teammate Kheira Hamraoui.

Early reports indicated that Hamraoui had accepted a ride home from Diallo following a team meal. The car was allegedly then stopped by two men and, as Diallo was held by one of the men, the other assaulted Hamraoui, injuring both her hands and legs. Hamraoui reportedly suffered cuts and heavy bruises but no broken bones.

Diallo has been accused of hiring the hitmen to injure Hamraoui and prevent her from competing for playing time.

Diallo was arrested in her home on Wednesday. According to the New York Times, authorities extended her detainment for further questioning on Thursday. After that, she was released, since French prosecutors have just 48 hours to charge suspects with a crime. Diallo has not been charged with a crime, but the investigation is ongoing.

According to multiple reports, a man connected to Diallo was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently released. A report by The AFP indicates that a third PSG player, Sakina Karchaoui, issued a statement to police on Thursday upon request.

PSG is set to face Lyon on Sunday. Last season, PSG won France’s Division 1 Féminine title, ending Lyon’s 14-year reign atop the league.
