While there weren’t any games Monday night, WNBA Twitter more than made up for the lack of action.
The drama began when the New York Liberty’s Jazmine Jones called out Bleacher Report for “hyping up the wrong stuff” in reference to Skylar Diggins-Smith putting Jones’ teammate, Didi Richards, in a spin cycle over the weekend.
Diggins-Smith then took exception to Jones’ tweet.
Girl shut tf up! They can’t post a highlight? Complain to your organization, first, why they only hype one person!
— Skylar Diggins-Smith (@SkyDigg4) June 14, 2021
Diggins-Smith also took the opportunity to sound off on the Liberty’s marketing strategy, suggesting that New York plugs 2020 No. 1 overall pick Sabrina Ionescu more than its other players.
Diggins-Smith wasn’t done after that. She continued to tweet, referring to Jones’ argument as a “crabs in a barrel” mentality.
Crabs in a barrel ass mentality!

Jones wasn’t in the mood to play, however, calling Diggins-Smith’s message “fighting words.”
“Girl Shut tf up” is fighting words … so what’s really good 🤔

Jones also retweeted her own game-winner from Sunday as a reminder of who ultimately came out on top.

Meanwhile the rest of WNBA Twitter, including players, teams and fans sat back and watched the drama unfold.
For Liz Cambage, not being part of the drama was new.
Literally has never happened until now

Sydney Colson commentated on the situation, tapping into her extensive vocabulary to make a point.
The bottom line is: if you got your ankles snatched but your team got the W...you still got your ankles snatched.

I love when WNBA players fight🤗 Now let’s start with the ad hominem attacks bc those are my favorite

It didn’t take long for the Liberty and the Mercury team accounts to get in on the action, as well. That prompted responses from other WNBA team accounts.
