Sabrina Ionescu turned Wednesday night's Sky vs. Liberty matchup into a shooting showcase. Down eight points with under a minute left, the veteran guard scored nine consecutive points to carry New York to a 95-94 comeback win over the Chicago Sky.
How Sabrina Ionescu Sparked Late Rally in Sky vs. Liberty Game
Ionescu finished the night with 29 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-7 from behind the arc. Then Jonquel Jones sealed the win via a go-ahead free throw with just three seconds remaining.
Afterward, Ionescu explained her mindset during the late run. "Understood what the score was and we knew we had to get threes up," she said. "I just saw the basket. I felt like I was kind of having my three-point shootout in game."
Her scoring was especially critical given the rest of the lineup's struggles. The other four New York Liberty starters combined to shoot 17-of-46 from the field. Without Ionescu's burst, the Chicago Sky would have walked away with the win.
The victory moved the Liberty to 15-12 as they push toward a sixth consecutive playoff berth. For the Ionescu, the result was another reminder of what the WNBA All-Star can do when the game is on the line.
