The Sparks vs Sky matchup swung in the final period Wednesday night at Wintrust Arena. The Chicago Sky poured in 34 fourth-quarter points to beat LA, 95-88.
Rae Burrell Leads LA Sparks Offensive Push
Despite the final score, Rae Burrell and the LA Sparks briefly grabbed the lead late. Burrell finished with 13 points and five assists, including a pair of made 3-pointers.
Dearica Hamby joined her, leading all scorers with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists. Cameron Brink added 11 points, six rebounds, and three blocks despite foul trouble that limited her to 14 minutes. And Nneka Ogwumike posted 10 points and seven rebounds while Erica Wheeler chipped in 14.
But the Sparks offense stalled after Ariel Atkins took a shot to the ribs in the fourth and did not return. Chicago cashed in on the next possession, with a Jacy Sheldon triple stretching the lead to nine.
Chicago Sky Comeback Turns the Tide in the Final Quarter
Natasha Cloud, Kamilla Cardoso, and Sheldon each scored 15 to pace the Sky, keeping Chicago in contention before they ultimately pulled away late in the last frame.
The loss dropped the Sparks to 11-18 just before they visit the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday at 9 PM ET on Prime. The Chicago Sky, meanwhile, face the Indiana Fever on Saturday at 3:30 PM ET on ABC.
