Sue Bird added to USA Basketball’s board of directors

Sue Bird, alongside Kevin Durant, was among those added to USA Basketball’s board of directors on Monday.

The two are among five athlete representatives who were added to the board. The number of representatives was expanded from 11 to 15 for the upcoming Olympic cycle.

Additionally, retired Gen. Martin Dempsey was reelected as chairperson of USA Basketball, making him the second person to be elected chair for back-to-back Olympic cycles. He will remain in the role through the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Joining Bird is Seimone Augustus and Jennifer Azzi. Additionally, WNBA head of league operations Bethany Donaphin, West Coast Conference commissioner Gloria Nevarez and National Federation of State High School Associations executive director Karissa Niehoff were also named to the board.

Bird, a five-time Olympic gold medalist, confirmed at the Tokyo Olympics that they would be her last.
