This year’s UEFA Women’s Euros continue to deliver on and off the pitch.

Georgia Stanway played the hero in extra time to help host England secure a come-from-behind win over Spain in the quarterfinals, and a peak of 7.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the thriller on BBC One.

That number makes the match the largest television audience of the Euros so far in England, up from the 4 million that tuned in to watch England’s 8-0 win over Norway in the group stage.

In addition to the television viewers, 1.5 million viewers streamed from BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app. The total viewership doesn’t eclipse the most-watched women’s match ever in England, though — 11.7 million tuning into the team’s semifinal loss to the United States in the 2019 World Cup.

A total of 28,994 fans were in attendance at Amex Stadium to watch the match Wednesday. Already, this year’s tournament has set a new attendance record, bringing in a total of 248,075 fans as of July 18.

England next will play in the semifinals on July 26 against the winner of Friday’s quarterfinal between Sweden and Belgium.
