The Indiana Fever signed former Rookie of the Year Crystal Dangerfield to a hardship exemption contract. She will play in the team’s regular season opener against the Washington Mystics on Friday.
Just 10 players will be available for Indiana as Alaina Coates, Bria Hartley and Danielle Robinson complete overseas commitments. All three have had their contracts temporarily suspended, which allowed the Fever to bring on Dangerfield.
Dangerfield was cut by the Minnesota Lynx earlier this week. She finished her second WNBA season in 2021, averaging 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 31 games. The 2020 Rookie of the Year, she ranked second amongst rookies in scoring that season with a team-high 16.2 points per game. She also ranked second in assists with 3.6 per game.
She was selected with the No. 16 overall pick by Minnesota in 2020.
