James Wade is staying in Chicago.
The Chicago Sky announced Wednesday that their head coach and general manager has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2025. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
“I’m very excited and pleased that the organization has entrusted me to lead this franchise and it’s very humbling to know that I get to coach this group of players and work in this great organization for an extended period of time,” Wade said. “I’m very honored and I feel very blessed.”
The sixth GM and coach in Sky history, Wade joined the Sky in November 2018. He helped lead the team to its first WNBA title last season and to the second-best record in the league this year.
He holds the highest winning percentage of any coach in Sky history at .597 (74-50) and has led the Sky to the playoffs in each of his four seasons at the helm.
During his tenure, the team added Candace Parker in 2021 and Emma Meesseman, Julie Allemand and Rebekah Gardner this year. The latter three signings contributed to his WNBA Basketball Executive of the Year award, announced Monday.
