The Las Vegas Aces will kick off their title defense May 19, the opening day of the 2023 WNBA season.

The regular season will run through Sept. 10. For the first time, each team will play a record 40 games, compared to 36 in the 2022 season.

“The expanded schedule will provide fans greater opportunities to see the best players in the world compete on the game’s biggest stage,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said.

Just Women’s Sports breaks down the top takeaways from the 2022 schedule:

  • Opening night will start with two 7 p.m. ET tip-offs: The New York Liberty will travel to Washington to take on the Mystics, and the Connecticut Sun will head to Indiana to face the Fever (and their No. 1 draft pick — Aliyah Boston, anyone?).
  • The 19th annual All-Star game will be held July 15, though the location of the All-Star festivities has not been announced.
  • The Commissioner’s Cup in-season tournament will be held for the third season, including 10 regular-season games followed by a Commissioner’s Cup championship game on Aug. 15.
  • The Aces and the Sun will face off in three WNBA Finals rematches, on June 6 and June 8 in Connecticut and then on July 1 in Las Vegas.
