The WTA announced Wednesday that the 2026 WTA Finals will move from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California this November. And presale tickets are on sale now.
Why Are the WTA Finals Moving to Indian Wells?
The change comes after the organization mutually ended its three-year hosting deal with the Saudi Tennis Federation one year early. Growing military conflicts in the Middle East reportedly influenced the decision.
Indian Wells already hosts the BNP Paribas Open each March, but this will be the first time Southern California has hosted the season-ending event since 2005. The top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams will compete from November 8-15 at Stadium 1, which holds over 16,000 fans and is the second-largest outdoor tennis stadium in the world.
The annual tournament has struggled with venue stability for years.
After stops in Singapore, Shenzhen, Guadalajara, Fort Worth, and Cancun, Riyadh drew criticism over Saudi Arabia's human rights record when it was announced as host in 2024. The WTA has yet to announce plans to host the finals beyond 2026.
Players like world No. 4 Jessica Pegula are skeptical of the event's future.
"The saga of the WTA Finals continues," Pegula said following the news. "It's like we can't catch a break, and I don't necessarily think it's our fault. There just tends to be a lot of world conflicts that seem to happen and get in the way."
