Jule Niemeier came up big Wednesday in Wimbledon’s second round with a stunning 6-4, 6-0 upset of No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit.

The match was Niemeier’s first against a top 10 player and just the second Grand Slam main draw appearance of her career. She made her first appearance last month at Roland Garros, and followed that up with a title at the Makarska WTA 125.

The win also makes the German the lowest-ranked female player to win a main draw match against a top-three opponent at Wimbledon since 2016. That year, Jana Cepelova took down Garbine Muguruza in straight sets in the second round.

Niemeier put on a show from the serve. She did not face a break point and conceded just five points on her first delivery and seven on her second. The match took a total of 58 minutes.

“Amazing. I am speechless to be honest,” said Niemeier, who called it one of the biggest wins of her career up to this point. “Winning at Wimbledon on Court One is an amazing feeling. I am happy I could handle the situation today. I love playing on grass.”
