The Portland Thorns held their place atop the NWSL standings, collecting three points in the club’s 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit on Saturday.

Simone Charley’s leaping header in the 29th minute proved to be the game-winner, with Olivia Moultrie providing the assist in her first start for the Thorns. Saturday’s go-ahead finish marks Charley’s fourth goal of the season.

Portland now sits seven points clear from North Carolina at the top of the NWSL standings.

Next up: The Thorns will travel to Orlando to take on the Pride on Saturday. The Spirit will face off against the Dash on Friday.
