Angel City FC has signed German goalkeeper Almuth Schult on a one-year contract with the option for an additional year. Schult, who is a member of the German national team, will join the club in July following the UEFA European Women’s Championship.

“Almuth is in a very small category of players who have won league titles, Olympic Gold medals, European championships and the UEFA Champions League,” ACFC Sporting Director Eniola Aluko said in a statement. “It is a special addition to our goalkeeper group and defensive unit.”

Shult will join the club from VfL Wolfsburg, where she has been since 2013. She’ll finish the season with the club, which is currently in the Champions League semifinals.

A member of the 2016 Summer Olympics team for Germany, she helped the team win its first Olympic gold medal in women’s soccer. She also helped Wolfsburg to a UEFA Champions League title in 2013.

“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NWSL,” Schult said. “I have followed Angel City since the day the team was announced. It’s so impressive and unique. Everything is not only about football, it’s about impact and supporting women. I am proud to be joining the team and I look forward to the summer.”

Through four games in the Challenge Cup, ACFC has one draw and three losses. They will open the regular season against North Carolina on April 29.
