Madison Keys made quick work of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the second round of the 2026 Lexus Eastbourne Open on Wednesday. The world No. 27 needed just 53 minutes to close out the 6-0, 6-1 win on the English grass-court.

Madison Keys Quickly Overpowers Eastbourne Open Opponant

Madison Keys controlled play from the baseline throughout, pairing deep groundstrokes with sharp placement that left the 48th-ranked Spaniard scrambling. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro had entered with momentum after wins over Katie Volynets and Himeno Sakatsume, but she had no answer for Keys's shot strength.

The result continues an impressive grass-court stretch for Keys.

She opened her season on the surface in Berlin last week, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to eventual runner-up Jessica Pegula. Now in her sixth appearance at Devonshire Park, the 2025 Australian Open winner is chasing a third Eastbourne title after victories in 2014 and 2023. Her 54-20 career record on grass backs up that ambition.

Beyond the surface, Keys has stayed consistent across the 2026 WTA season, reaching a clay-court final in May alongside multiple hard-court quarterfinals earlier in the year.

By finishing this match so quickly, she saved energy for the later rounds as she pursues another WTA trophy and sharpens her grass-court game ahead of next week's 2026 Wimbledon Grand Slam.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka began her Roland Garros 2026 campaign with a commanding French Open victory on Tuesday.

The top seed defeated Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2 on Court Philippe-Chatrier to advance to the second round, marking her 22nd consecutive first-round win at a Grand Slam tournament. To secure the milestone, Sabalenka needed just one hour and 15 minutes.

Aryna Sabalenka Beats 2026 French Open Heat Wave

The Belarussian established control immediately, battling through punishing weather conditions that have plagued the tournament so far.

Temperatures soared to 33°C (91°F) as an unusual heat wave swept through Paris. The intense heat dried out the clay, making the court surface play much faster than normal — a change of pace that suited the four-time Grand Slam champion's power forehand. Sabalenka built quick advantages in both sets, moving ahead 4-0 in the first and 5-0 in the second.

Sabalenka disrupted her opponent with confident play at the net, too, hitting 29 total winners throughout the match to stay on the front foot.

Shortened points are something Sabalenka worked to perfect over the last year, remaining key to her quest for her first French Open title.

“That’s the most enjoyable part of the game right now, that I’m able to come to the net and play points there,” Sabalenka said postmatch. “I’m so glad I have improved that part of the game and I can bring it on court.”

Sabalenka Ousts Bouzas Maneiro in 'Tricky' First Round

Despite the final score, Bouzas Maneiro didn't go down without a fight.

The world No. 50 clawed back from her initial deficit to win four of the next five games in the opening set. Similarly, she capitalized on a brief dip from Sabalenka in the second set to extend the match.

The Belarusian ultimately answered that resistance by netting clean winners and a series of powerful returns to force a final double fault from Bouzas Maneiro.

"The first matches are always the trickiest ones," Sabalenka said of the French Open win. "[The] further I get in the tournament, [the] more comfortable I get, my level becomes better."

She'll next face the winner of Linda Fruhvirtova vs. Elsa Jacquemot.

Tennis's biggest names have hit highs and lows down under over the weekend, with stars like Coco Gauff seeing mixed results at the 2026 United Cup as the annual Australian Open team tune-up tournament heads into its knockout rounds.

World No. 4 Coco Gauff and the reigning champion Team USA are through to the quarterfinals, joined by top WTA competitor and No. 11 Belinda Bencic of Team Switzerland.

Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Czechia, and Greece also punched their tickets to the knockouts, with Tuesday night's final group-stage bout deciding whether No. 2 Iga Świątek and Team Poland or Team Germany will claim the final spot in the quarterfinals.

Thus far in the team competition, however, Gauff has experienced a particularly up-and-down tournament, suffering her first-ever United Cup singles defeat on Monday against No. 42 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain after causing a stir with her postmatch comments.

"I feel like we're definitely, in tennis, the worst," she told reporters before the singles showdown. "I've always said I wish our country in other places would show up throughout the world as we see smaller countries support."

After taking some heat, the 21-year-old later clarified her position on social media, writing "Trust me I understand the financial aspect of things and know tennis is not accessible for everyone, it was more of a comment for those who are already attending and how I wish they were as passionate as those from other countries."

How to watch Gauff and Team USA at the 2026 United Cup

Gauff will look to return to form against No. 51 Maria Sakkari when Team USA kicks off the 2026 United Cup quarterfinals against Team Greece at 9 PM ET on Tuesday, airing live on the Tennis Channel.
