The UEFA on Wednesday approved to double the amount of prize money available to teams competing at the Women’s European Championship in England next summer.

A total of 16 million pounds will be shared between the 16 teams that qualify, up from the 8 million pound pool distributed at Euro 2017.

UEFA also plans to introduce a club benefits program that will distribute 4.5 million pounds to clubs across Europe that release their players for the tournament.

“The increases in financial distributions and introduction of a club benefits programme are key strategic initiatives of UEFA’s Women’s Football Strategy, ensuring that more money than ever before is distributed across the women’s game,” UEFA said in a statement.

The tournament is set to begin July 6, 2022 at Old Trafford.
