Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took gold in the 100 meters on Sunday in Eugene, Ore., winning her fifth world title in the event and becoming the first person to win five world titles in an individual event.
The 35-year-old led the Jamaican sweep with a time of 10.67, which included two-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah. Considered to be the favorite, Thompson-Herah finished in third in 10.81.
“It means a lot to us. We have been working hard,” said Thompson-Herah. “One-two-three at the Olympics, and 1-2-3 at championships. Even though I wanted to win, it didn’t work out. But I’m still keeping the journey going.”
Shericka Jackson finished in second place in a time of 10.73.
“So many people believe that when women turn 35, it somehow diminishes our gift, our talent,” Fraser-Pryce said. “But I’m still able to line up and compete, and that is very special.”

The Jamaican called it her “favorite world title” but added that she’s not done competing.
“Whenever I’m healthy, I’m going to compete,” she said. “I’m hungry, I’m driven and I always believe I can run faster and I’m not going to stop until I stop believing that.”
The medal, which marks her seventh title in the 100m between the Olympics and worlds, breaks her tie with Usain Bolt.
