Only 68 points separated first and third place on the leaderboard, making the campaign the tightest finish across any Athletes Unlimited season. Rachel Garcia trailed O’Toole by 14 points for second place after earning the most MVP points of any player with 320. Garcia received MVP 1 honors five times and MVP 3 once.
In nine appearances, O’Toole notched 18 strikeouts and held opponents to a combined .206 batting average. The pitcher finished the season with a 1.69 ERA.
“It’s kind of wild,” O’Toole said. “I just didn’t expect any of this to happen. I just knew I was gonna go out and grind and compete, but this, this was not, this was not even close to being in my head.”
Sis Bates was also honored for her Series 3 performance, securing the AUX Geico Defensive MVP. The shortstop logged 21 putouts and a .952 fielding percentage. Along with the award, voted on by players and members of the Unlimited Club, Bates received a $1,250 prize.
The debut season of AUX Softball was an expansion of the Athletes Unlimited structure, providing players additional opportunities to compete throughout the year. Many athletes will return for Season 3 in Rosemont, Illinois, which kicks off on July 29.
