UConn standout freshman Azzi Fudd will be out for a minimum of two weeks due to a lingering foot injury.

Head coach Geno Auriemma said the guard has a “beginning of a stress reaction” in her foot due to an issue that’s persisted since the summer.

“She’s not going to be playing for a while,” Auriemma told reporters after practice on Wednesday. “It’s best to be cautious. It’s a long season, and even more importantly, it’s a long career for her.”

With no set timetable for her return, Fudd will be reevaluated in two weeks. UConn (3-1) faces Seton Hall, No. 24 Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and UCLA during that time.

“She’s a really tough kid, right?” Auriemma said. “She never wants to sit out. She thinks she can do anything. You’ve been waiting all this time to play and she tried playing through it and it’s just not working.”

Fudd, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2021, has averaged 7.5 points and 19.5 minutes per game off the bench. Off the court, she recently announced an NIL deal with NBA star Steph Curry and appeared on the latest issue of SLAM with fellow UConn star Paige Bueckers.
