Barcelona opened its UEFA Women's Champions League title defense with a 5-2 victory over Paris FC on Wednesday. The win also marked Barcelona's 900th victory across all competitions, a total built across 1,247 games stretching back to 1988.
Barcelona Bounces Back to Net Easy UWCL Opening Win
Despite the final scoreline, it was Paris FC who took the lead early in the match. Evelyne Viens scored in the fifth minute to put the French side ahead. However, Barcelona answered with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead into the break. Recent addition Kerolin equalized in the 18th, before Clara Serrajordi made it 2-1 just 10 minutes later.
Ewa Pajor extended Barcelona's advantage in the 35th. Then Caroline Graham Hansen converted just before halftime to complete the first-half turnaround. And it didn't take long once both teams retook the pitch for Barcelona to firmly put the game out of reach. Pajor scored her second in the 70th minute to round out the club's UWCL League Phase win.
Clara Matéo pulled one back for Paris FC three minutes later, but the deficit was already too steep.
Barcelona is now winning at a 72% clip across its 38-year history, as Pere Romeu's side is yet to drop a match this season. Its next test will be Roma on Wednesday, September 30th at 12:45 PM ET on Paramount+.
