WNBA star and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, weighed in on teammate Sophie Cunningham's viral UFC moment, and joked it might just be the beginning. After the Fever's 109-75 win over the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, Clark admitted she missed Cunningham's UFC ring girl cameo live, but had thoughts on what could come next.
"Maybe she'll be a UFC fighter. I don't know. That's up to Sophie," Clark said at the postgame press conference.
How Fever WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham Became a UFC Ring Girl
The cameo came together the night before the fight.
Cunningham, already in town for the Fever WNBA matchup against the Aces, made a surprise appearance as an honorary ring girl at UFC 329. UFC CEO Dana White agreed on the spot, and she walked out before the Paddy Pimblett vs Benoît Saint Denis co-main event.
Then on Sunday, Cunningham backed up her appearance in the ring with a standout performance on the court. The guard scored 20 points and six 3-pointers in the Fever's blowout win.
Caitlin Clark Talks WNBA Culture Extending Off the Court
Clark framed the moment as part of a bigger shift.
"It shows people are really paying attention to the WNBA and the players we have and the personalities we have across this league," the guard said.
For now, Cunningham's future in the UFC will have to be put on hold. The Fever are currently in the midst of a postseason push. The team next faces the Golden State Valkyries tonight at 8 PM ET on USA network.
